Set up InQuiry inside NSW Health
using the Vivaldi browser

NSW Health blocks Chrome extensions. The fix is simple: install the Vivaldi browser once and load InQuiry into it. About 10 minutes, one time — then just use Vivaldi from then on.

The short version

1) Install Vivaldi (a separate browser).   2) Download & unzip the InQuiry extension.   3) In Vivaldi, turn on Developer mode and Load unpacked.   4) Pin it, sign in, open InQuiry. Done. Full detail below — take it one step at a time.

Why this works: NSW Health's rules block Google Chrome specifically. Vivaldi is a separate, reputable browser built on the same engine, so it opens InQuiry exactly like Chrome but lets you add the extension. It does not change or touch Chrome. We've confirmed Vivaldi installs and runs on NSW Health computers without admin rights.

Install the Vivaldi browser

Vivaldi is free. You only do this once.

  1. Open your current browser and go to the Vivaldi website
    Type this into the address bar and press Enter: vivaldi.com

  2. Click “Download Vivaldi”
    It will download an installer file (named something like Vivaldi.x.x.exe). It usually lands in your Downloads folder.

  3. Run the installer — double-click the downloaded file
    When the Vivaldi installer opens, just click Accept and Install. The default installs Vivaldi just for you and does not need an administrator password. (Only if asked: click Advanced and keep Standard install — not “all user accounts”.)

  4. Click through the welcome screens
    Vivaldi may ask to import bookmarks or pick a theme — you can just click Next / Skip / Continue on all of it. None of it matters for InQuiry.
Click Download Vivaldi, then double-click the downloaded file to install.
If the installer says it needs an administrator: click Advanced and choose Standard install (just for you) or Standalone — neither needs admin. If it still blocks you, your machine is locked down harder than usual — email us (bottom of page) and we'll help, or ask your local IT for a one-off OK to install Vivaldi.

Download & unzip the InQuiry extension

This is the InQuiry extension itself, as a folder you'll point Vivaldi at.

Download the InQuiry extension (ZIP)

  1. Click the download button above
    A file called Inquiry_AI_Extension.zip downloads to your Downloads folder.
  2. Unzip it
    Find the file in Downloads, right-click it → choose “Extract All…” → click Extract. (You can also drag it to your Documents folder first.)
    A new folder (not a zip) called Inquiry_AI_Extension. Open it once and check it contains a file named manifest.json — that confirms it unzipped correctly.
  3. Leave the folder where it is
    Put it somewhere permanent — e.g. Documents. Vivaldi loads the extension from this folder every time, so don't delete or move it afterwards.
Don't skip the unzip. If you point Vivaldi at the .zip file instead of the unzipped folder, it won't work. You need the extracted folder that contains manifest.json.

Load InQuiry into Vivaldi

  1. In Vivaldi, open the Extensions page
    Click the address bar at the top, type this exactly, and press Enter: vivaldi://extensions

  2. Turn on “Developer mode”
    Look in the top-right corner of that page for a switch labelled Developer mode. Click it so it turns on (blue).
    Three new buttons appear: Load unpacked, Pack extension, Update.
  3. Click “Load unpacked”
    A file-picker window opens. Browse to the folder you unzipped in Part 2 (Inquiry_AI_Extension), click it once to select it, then click Select Folder.
    A new card appears: InQuiry AI Letter Review, with a version number. That means it worked. 🎉

“Manifest file is missing or unreadable”? You selected the wrong folder. Go back into the folder until you can see manifest.json sitting directly inside it, then select that folder. Sometimes unzipping creates a folder-inside-a-folder — pick the inner one that holds manifest.json.

Pin it and sign in

  1. Pin the InQuiry icon to your toolbar
    Click the small puzzle-piece icon near the top-right of Vivaldi → find InQuiry AI Letter Review → click the pin next to it so the icon stays visible.
    Click the 📌 pin next to InQuiry so its icon stays on the toolbar.
  2. Click the InQuiry icon and sign in
    Click the InQuiry icon → Create account (this opens a quick signup page) → enter your name, email and a password. You get $1.00 free credit to try it. Already registered? Just Sign in.

  3. (Later) Top up from your phone if you like
    You can sign in at inquiryai.com.au on your phone and top up with Apple Pay — no card details stored. $20 typically lasts months.

Use it in InQuiry

  1. Open InQuiry in Vivaldi
    Go to mytranscriptions.com.au in Vivaldi and log in as normal. It works exactly like it does in Chrome.
  2. Open a letter for editing
    The InQuiry review buttons appear right inside the letter editor. Click Grammar Review for a quick fix, or Custom Review to apply your own style.

  3. From now on, just use Vivaldi for letters
    That's the whole trick — keep Vivaldi for your letter work. Everything else can stay in Chrome/Edge if you prefer.
That's it. You never have to repeat Parts 1–3. Open Vivaldi → open InQuiry → review → approve.

Updating to a new version later

When a new version is released, download the new ZIP, unzip it over the same folder (replacing the old files), then open vivaldi://extensions and click the small refresh / reload icon on the InQuiry card. Done.

If something goes wrong

I can't find “Developer mode”
It's a small toggle in the top-right of the vivaldi://extensions page. Make sure you typed the address exactly and pressed Enter. Maximise the window if it's cut off.
It says “Manifest file is missing or unreadable”
You picked the wrong folder. Browse into the unzipped folder until you can see a file called manifest.json, then select the folder that contains it. Unzipping sometimes makes a folder inside a folder — choose the inner one.
The buttons don't show up in InQuiry
Refresh the InQuiry page once after installing. The buttons only appear on the letter editor page (with a letter open). If they still don't show, make sure the extension is enabled (toggle on) at vivaldi://extensions.
“Extension context invalidated” message
This just means the extension was reloaded while InQuiry was open. Refresh the InQuiry page and the buttons come back.
The extension disappeared after I restarted
You probably moved or deleted the unzipped folder. Vivaldi loads it from that folder each time. Put the folder back (or re-do Part 2 & 3) and keep it somewhere permanent like Documents.
The Vivaldi installer is blocked / needs admin
Choose the “Install for me only” option in the installer — it usually avoids needing admin. If it's still blocked, email us and we'll help.
